At the 1934 Worlds Fair, three Ford V-8 cars were hung by one wheel to show the strength in Ford's electrically welded steel wire wheels! The weight was only one quarter of what a Ford wheel could withstand.

They sure don't make them like that anymore. I bent a wheel hitting a pothole at 40mph a few months ago.
